Tropicbirds, one of the most elegant seabirds!

Pantai Ngonap (Ngongap Beach), Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta is probably one of the most easiest place in Java to watch the White-tailed Tropicbird (Phaeton lepturus) colonies, because they breed there.
Tropicbirds is one of the most elegant seabirds with his very long central tail feathers. In 16th August 2014 we saw more than 20 birds flying around our spot. What a good number! *for me. And lucky for me, i got two subspecies ssp. lepturus and ssp. fulvus with his striking golden color.

After finish taking some photos we go back to our basecamp, but before that we make a stop for lunch. And one of the most famous food in Gunung Kidul is "Belalang Goreng" or Fried Grasshopper. Well...not bad, i like it!

Special thanks to all my friends who accompany me: Mas Kukuh, Mas Wahb, Mas Kholil, Panji, Mas Kir, dan Mas Abhe.

Brown Noddy

Noddies are found over warm ocean water, where they feed by swooping or gently dipping to the surface. In Java Island the Brown Noddy (Anous stolidus) is more common than Black Noddy (Anous minutus). Has been recorded in Ujung Kulon National Park, Jakarta Bay, and Karimun Jawa National Park.

Identify: Medium size, dark, brown bird. Adults have ashy-white forehead and crown sharply demarcated from black lores, merging evenly into gray nape. Long, narrow, wedged-shaped tail. Bill is black and stouter than the black noddy. Legs/feet dark brown. Weigh twice as much as black noddies. Young noddies have a more restricted white cap on forehead than adults.
