Bad Day..Good Results

Saturday 10 March 2012
With GO WILD INDONESIA! and my brother we go to Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary and Rambut Island. Our meeting point is at Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary. We start birdawatching on 6 o'clock. I lead the first group (around 10 people). Around 1oo meters from the office, i saw one pair Sunda Coucal (Centropus nigrorufus) take off from the reed and landed on Nipa Palm (Nypa fruticans) around 20 meters from us. From the office until the end of the bridge i saw so many birds like Javan Pond Heron, Purple Heron, Japanese Sparrowhawk, Clamorous Reed Warbler, White-breasted Waterhen, Oriental Darter, and the others. On the way back i saw one Sunda Coucal take off from the reed. Oh my..i saw three individual of Sunda Coucal only around 3 hours! (never like this before).

After that we go to Onrust Island by boat. Along the river we saw so many birds like Racket-tailed Treepie, Spotted Dove, Collared Kingfisher, Javan Pond Heron, Great Egret, and you know what, in the end of the river there's another Sunda Coucal sunbathing on the top of the tree. Arrrgghhh..i'm getting stress because i don't bring my camera. On onrust island there's no special bird, but there's an archaeological park to protect the artifacts and ruins. After that we move to Rambut Island (Heaven of bird). In this island i saw Asian Koel, Milky Stork, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Whimbrel, Pied Imperial Pigeon, Great Egret, Grey Heron, and the other waterbirds. And got one lifer (Little Green Pigeon Treron olax) maybe this is first record for Jakarta. From the Rambut Island we move to Untung Jawa Island and we have lunch here. I saw two juveniles Frigatebirds (Chirstmas Island Frigatebird and Lesser Frigatebird) soaring together. After that we back to Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary. Along the river on Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary we got one Black-winged Starling, Barn Swallow, Black-crowned Night Heron, and....OH NO!! One pair Sunda Coucal perching very close to us only around 6-10 meters from our boat. This is very good view and the closest range with Sunda Coucal. The participants is very happy can see two rarest bird in Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary. I'm so sad because i don't bring my camera :( :( :(
